Character FAQ:
Q: What does it do?
A: See the technical explanation -> here
Q: Is it some sort of Enhancer or Exciter?
A: No. Character is not an enhancer. Traditional enhancers boost harmonics trying to make the sound more brilliant. Character is based on a completely new adaptive filtering technology, which has nothing to do with the harmonics. The first perceived impression might be similar to an enhancer, but after closer listening you'll hear that it's really something else! Obviously, there is no correct category for Character, since it is a completely new approach to audio processing, but the most logical would be filtering. However, Character is far from conventional static filters.
Q: What is the difference between Character and Dynamic EQ?
A: Dynamic EQ allows increasing or decreasing certain frequency ranges by relative amount compared to the input signal content. Although Character changes frequency response and affects to the dynamics, it is completely different compared to Dynamic EQ processing. See the technical description -> here .
Q: Can I get the same results using traditional EQ's and compressors?
A: Definitely not. The adaptive filter is driven by a process, that "learns" from the input signal and the filter output is used to determine the characteristics, which are then brought forward from the input signal. The effect to the dynamics and frequency response is very different depending on the frequency. This cannot be achieved by any kind of combination of conventional EQ's and compressors or limiters.
Q: Where can I use it?
A: Basically, Character can be applied to any kind of audio material. It's designed for single tracks, but it can create good results on mixed material also. Users have reported amazing results on drum loops, kick drum, snare drum, guitar, electric bass, vocals and synths.
